What I experienced on Halloween a few years ago.
I’ve been scared lots of times, but last Halloween was the worst. I was alone in the house because my mom took my brother and sister trick-or-treating. My plan for the night was to sit in front of the TV and watch the horror movie marathon. But, as you’ve probably guessed, it didn’t work out the way I planned.
It started out great. I sat and watched ‘The Exorcist’. I watched the first forty-five minutes, but then I was interrupted by the ringing doorbell. I sighed and went to answer the door. I pulled open the door and saw no one.
Sighing, I went back to the living room. It’s just the stupid kids, I thought as I sat down. I watched fifteen more minutes and then was interrupted again by the doorbell. I got up, walked to the door and pulled it open. Again, no one was there. I stepped outside into the warm, still air. I looked around to find the street completely deserted.
I looked up and saw huge thunderclouds threatening rain. I shivered and went back inside. I watched the rest of ‘The Exorcist’. The doorbell rang again as soon as the movie was over. I walked over to the door, but instead of opening it, I looked out the window.
There, on the porch, was a man. Blood ran down his face. I quickly opened the door, but no one was there. I looked around for a sign of the man, but I didn’t see anything. Not even a trail of blood.
The was no one there at all, I thought, my heart pounding. I just had a case of the Halloween jitters.
I turned around and saw the man. He had deep gashes in his face. Blood dripped from the gashes and formed a puddle around his feet.
I screamed and he laughed.
I ran to my room, shut my door and quickly locked it. I jumped into bed and finally fell asleep with the dead man’s laugh ringing in my ears…
I woke up and heard knocking on my door.
“Andrew, are you all right?” my mom called.
“Yeah,” I answered. “Why?”
“Well, there’s blood all over the house and it leads to your room,” my mom replied.
“No,” I whispered.
In my head, I heard the dead man’s laugh and wondered if he was going to come back…
