This is the true story of what happened to my wife.
Jake had gone to school that evening and was sitting in class when a disturbance began at the door of the classroom.
Jake really wasn’t paying much attention because he was visiting with several other students.
“Jake Dunnigan? … Would you please step outside?” A strange man’s voice asked.
“Sorry? What’s that, sir?” Jake asked.
“Please come outside the classroom, sir!” The campus security guard demanded.
Jake didn’t say another word rather he got up and headed for the door.
“Get your things please sir you won’t be coming back.” The guard growled.
“Don’t hurt him he just survived cancer!” One of Jake’s classmates shouted.
“Jake, what did you do?” Several asked as he went back to get his jacket and books.
“I don’t know!” He said blankly.
“I didn’t even drive to school tonight, Becky dropped me off.”
After Jake had entered the hallway a lady stepped forward.
“Are you Jake Dunnigan?” She asked.
“Yes ma’am, I am.” He replied with wonder on both his face and in his voice.
“My name is Shelly Lang and I’ve come to pick you up and take you to your wife…I am so sorry to have to tell you this but she’s been mugged.”
“What? Are you serious? When? Where? Is she okay? Where is she?” He asked frantically.
“Yes, she’s okay, she’s very shaken up but she’s not hurt. It happened at the South Town Plaza a little while ago. I offered to come pick you up because she’s too upset to drive home and she was crying and asking for you.”
“Oh my God!” Jake said. “Thank you so much for your kindness! He added.
“It’s not a problem, I’m glad to be able to help.” She replied.
Shelly drove a mile or so to the plaza parking lot and stopped in front of the store where it had all happened.
“Becky’s inside, Jake, the police and the store manager are staying with her.” Shelly explained.
“Okay thanks so much again for everything!” Jake shouted over his shoulder as he ran for the store entrance.
“You’re welcome, Jake and God speed!” Shelly answered.
Jake ran inside the store and immediately saw Becky who was sitting in a chair and shaking like a leaf.
