This is the true story of what happened to my wife.

“Becky! I’m here honey!” He shouted, his voice quivering.

“Oh, Jake!” Becky sobbed as she grabbed his jacket and buried her face in the material.

They just held each other neither said anything just yet.

Jake was waiting for his trembling wife to realize that she was safe and that he was there.

Finally he whispered comforting words to her.

“It’s okay, baby, I’m here and you’re safe…”

She just cried harder. He held her.

Once she’d calmed down and relaxed a bit then he turned to see who all was standing around and asked what had happened.

A local city cop smiled knowingly at Jake and answered his questions.

“Sir, your wife had parked out in the lot and had been in here shopping. She’d returned to your car and had her hand on the door handle holding the keys in her hand when a white male jumped her and slammed her hard to the pavement and demanded her keys. Your wife refused to give him the keys and so he hit her in the face with his fist but she held on and screamed for help. A passing motorist heard her screams and then saw her being held on the pavement so he stopped and jumped out to assist her. As he ran towards the attacker the man got up and ran but he ran into another witness who jumped him and held him on the pavement until we arrived. The officer smiled and said that the man that grabbed the assailant said that he thought the assailant might have run into his fist a time or two…

Jake smiled back. “Good!” He replied.

“This gentleman right here, sir, is the man that saved your wife’s life.” The officer said as he nodded towards a man who’d been standing by quietly.

Jake walked over to the man and extended his hand.

“I can’t thank you enough for your kindness, sir!” Jake said. “Thank you so much! You’re a hero! You saved my wife’s life!”

The man smiled and began to turn red.

“Aww, you’re welcome. I’m glad I was able to help. Is she going to be okay?”

All three men turned to look at Becky who had sat back down and had begun to tremble again after hearing the whole story.

“I think so. I need to get her home.” Jake said.

“Officer? Is there anything else you need from either of us? Is it alright if I take her home now?” Jake asked.

“Yes sir. You can take her home now.” The officer replied.

And then the officer turned to Becky.

“Mrs. Dunnigan, I hope you’ll be alright, ma’am…” The officer stated.

“Thank you so much officer for everything!” Becky said.

And then Becky thanked the store manager before turning to the kind gentleman that had saved her life.

She hugged him and thanked him.

He blushed.

“You’re very welcome, Mrs. Dunnigan.” He responded.

The officer explained that Becky would have to testify in court when the case came up but that it wouldn’t be for several months.

He said that she would be notified by mail and a phone call.

Both Jake and Becky thanked everyone again and then left for home.

Several months later the case was scheduled to go to court but was postponed for several weeks. It was on again and off again for awhile longer which wore on Becky’s nerves. Jake stayed by her side until it finally did go to court. In the end Becky just had to say that the accused was the man who’d attacked her and he was convicted to two years in prison. It was finally over. Now Becky could at last put it all behind her and go on with her life.
