A memoir…
Some say that it wasn’t abuse, just harsh language. But in my opinion, harsh language hurts, but it eventually goes away. Abuse never goes away. It cuts deep into your soul and personality. Herbert Ward was once quoted as saying “Child abuse casts a shadow the length of a lifetime.”3 Because I was emotionally abused, I tried to kill myself, both of these problems left me feeling completely empty, alone and needing of someone’s acceptance. Even though today I have plenty of love, encouragement and acceptance from friends, family and Brandon, there are still times that I feel the need to be accepted, like most people, but I push myself way too hard and won’t accept anything but what I want (even if it doesn’t make sense). Then I end up going into a deep depression and have to work my way out of it once again.
Every year I still suffer at least one deep depression. I have to live with my choice just as my family would have had to have lived with the fact if I was successful. When the depression happens, my life changes; everything stops. I no longer have any motivation for anything in my life anymore. My life changes, Brandon’s life changes, and every person close to me changes as well. Depression doesn’t just change the person that is depressed; it changes everyone around them as well. Teen depression is a serious thing and needs to be stopped. One of the leading causes of teen depression is child abuse and it has to be stopped as well, in all its forms. If I can touch just one life with my story today, then I will not stop. Every kid deserves to be fought for. No one fought for me, had someone actually fought for me, maybe I wouldn’t have done what I did. I’m fighting for every kid that needs someone to fight for them! Everyone’s worth fighting for.
