Im writing this to help people and make them more aware, it can affect us or a loved one at any time.

I started working for Alzheimer Scotland in 2007 due to losing my grand father and many other members of my family to the awful disease.
Before having first hand experience of the disease I thought there was only one type and that it only affected the elderly – Both these statements are not true.
There is various types of Alzheimer’s and you can get it at any age the effects can be devastating for the person that has it but also for the families.
There is not enough help out there for people it all comes down to government funding and there not being enough room in centres to be able to help all those affected.
In my opinion there is not enough awareness or understanding of the disease.
I ll start by giving my own personal experiences. My Grand father got it in his late 80s we never realised he had it in till the doctor did tests.
When he would forget things like peoples names and where he was – We just put it down to him being elderly and never thought much more of it until more serious things started happening like, One day he had been out and left the handbrake off on his car and it was parked on a down hill! Luckily he managed to get out of it, Then there was the time he went for a walk and 6 hours later he still wasn’t back we were all so worried my Granny was going out of her mind with worry we searched and searched and couldn’t find him it was hell it was getting dark and cold and we didn’t know what to expect - (your mind starts imaging all sorts) Then about an hour later there was a knock at the door and it was a stranger saying does this man live here? It was my grandfather. The man told us he had found him down by a river but my grandfather couldn’t tell him where he lived he said he didn’t know but gave the man his name, So the kind man went round doors till someone recognised him. I was so thankful to that man as was everyone.Next was him going to make my granny a cup of tea and he had put the kettle on the cooker and it melted and nearly set the house on fire!!
