My mother in law: an amazing teacher, sometimes misunderstood.

One day a father of one of the students come in to the office to meet with Cherry. He complained that the school was too expensive and wondered on what she spent all of the money. One of the things she provided was apples for the children to eat at the end of the day. So, Cherry picked one of the apples up which were in a large bowl ready to be distributed and said, “What… do you think these apples just grow on trees?” At that, the father was sure he didn’t want his children to attend this particular preschool. Cherry laughed realizing her mistake as the father walked out. I’ll say one thing for sure any one who has the opportunity to spend any time with this woman, whether it was as a student in her preschool or as an American daughter in law, is a lucky person indeed, because time with Cherry is like looking passion, love, and generosity in the face (if these things had faces).

Those poor children who were pulled out of her school don’t know what they missed. Women like Cherry don’t grow on trees either. She is a rare and amazing person.  It’s too bad they missed out on being with her longer and learning more from her teaching. The people who remained in her preschool were very lucky and talk about it still today, more than twenty years later. Spending the holidays with Cherry and everyone else in England is magical. Well, that and eating, and shopping, and drinking lots of wine.
