An act of chivalry on Valentine’s Day.
My mom told me this humorous story of an adventure she had at the grocery store today:
My mom went to the grocery store; one that’s out of the way and not normally one she visits except on rare occasions for sales which they’ll have from time to time.
She was wandering around the store and happened down the canned food aisle. She started looking at canned veggies, when a man that was walking past her stopped abruptly and looked at her intently. She looked at him.
“Ma’am,” he said, “I’d like to wish you a very happy Valentine’s Day.” She just looked at him, him being a stranger that she had never met. ”Uh, thank you,” she replied, “Happy Valentine’s Day to you too.”
He smiled at her. ”It’s amazing how a small act of kindness goes a long way, isn’t it ? ” he asked.
“It certainly is. ” she agreed.
The man then starting walking down the aisle again, and my mom, bewildered by this strange event that had just taken place, went back to looking at the canned products.
The man walked down to the other end of the isle and started talking to a friend of his, an employee, or possibly another customer. They conversed for a moment, and then started walking back up the isle towards my mom. As they passed, the man’s friend kept walking by, but the man stopped abruptly at my mom’s cart again and looked at her. My mom looked at him again.
“Ma’am,” he said again, “You have such beautiful hair.” She continued to look at him. ”Uh, well, thank you.” she said, still bewildered.
“How did you get this hair ? ” he asked.
” Uh, it grows. ” she replied.
He smiled. ”I know,” he said. ”But how did you get it ?”
She paused, wondering if the man had been at the bottle. ”Well,” she replied. ”I guess the Good Lord just meant for me to have it.”
“Oh,” the man inquired. “Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ?”
“Yes, I do.” she replied.
The man then smiled and put out his hand. My mom, thinking that he wanted her to shake his hand put her hand out too. The man took my mom’s hand in his and then kissed it. Then still smiling, he turned and walked away.
My mom, totally bewildered at what had just happened finished her shopping and went home.
Upon visiting my mom today, and wishing her a very Happy Valentine’s Day, she told me this story and told me humorously, that apparently, even in this day and age…
“Chivalry Never Dies.”
