This paper is all about the life of Edgar Allen Poe.
Edgar Allan Poe was a great and respected poet and author. His own life was ruined at a young age when his father and mother died before he was three years old. He lived a tragic life and his life is a great story to tell. Due to this tragedy his writing pieces have been dark and filled with death and violence. There have been many pieces of his work published and many of them have been great ideas for films and TV shows including “The Tell-Tale Heart”, “The Black Cat”, and “The Raven”. His early years were a very hard part of his life for him.
Edgar Allen Poe was born on January 19 of 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. After his parents death Frances and John Allan took him in. Edgar moved to England in 1815 with the Edgar family and attended Chelsea. In 1820 he went back to Virginia to attend the University of Virginia to study Latin and poetry. Between 1827 and 1831 he wrote three poems. During those time periods Edgar’s foster mother died of TB. In 1831 he then moved to Baltimore to live with his aunt Clemm for a couple years. Four years later he then married his 13-year-old cousin. In early 1936 he had written six poems, a few essays and a couple of stories. While working in Philadelphia for Burton’s “Gentleman’s Magazine” in 1839 his pieces of work began to get noticed. In 1841 Edgar Allan Poe began working for a man named George Graham, who offered him $800 a year to work for him as an editor. In this year Poe began his famous work, “The Murders in the Rue Morgue.” In these years in Philadelphia, Poe published horror tales such as “The Tell-Tale Heart,” and “The Pit and The Pendulum.” It wasn’t until 1845 when he wrote his most famous poem “The Raven” that he became famous for his work. In February of 1847 Poe’s wife died of TB. Due to Virginia’s death he attempted suicide, and tried to bring back his writing career. Poe died at the age of 40 in October of 1849 in Baltimore. His death was believed to be caused by alcoholism. Throughout his life many incidents have influenced his work.
Many things have influenced Edgar’s writing including the fear of being buried alive an example of this influence is in Tell-Tale Heart the narrator buries the old man in his floor. And also In the “Cask of Amontillado” Montresor buries another man in an opening in the vaults alive. Another influence that is evident is about death and murder because of losses of loved ones in his life. For example, “The Raven” is about a man who lost Lenore, the woman he loved. “The Bells” is also about death. Many of the influences led to great poems and short stories.
Edgar Allen Poe has written many poems and short stories. Poe’s pieces include over 50 poems; one of his most famous poems is “The Raven.” Some other not so famous poems by Poe are Annabel Lee, Bridal Ballad, A Dream within a Dream, The Reaper, The Sleeper, and To One Departed. Many of his writing pieces have been turned into TV shows or films. A couple of pieces that were turned into ideas for TV shows and movies include, “Tell-Tale of Terror,” and “ The Fall of the House of Usher.”
After all Edgar Allan Poe has gone through a lot of trouble throughout his lifetime and it has all worked out for him still. Edgar Allan Poe will be remembered for his life story and most importantly his poetry. He has gone through a lot of problems in his childhood, his life problems have influenced him the most on his pieces and he has contributed many pieces of work to the public. Poe’s final days were hard on his family and his family members and the people of the world will always remember him.
