A recollection of a political unrest that broke out on 01 May 2001 in the Philippines.

Lost Sleep Recovery

I was lying on my back against the floor of the grandstand covered by pages of newspapers at 1130H with eyes closed, covered by my flight scarf but with thoughts still wandering. The 3 helicopters were left prepositioned in front of the grandstand and appeared like three horses grazing on the grass. The wind sent a gentle breeze that brought life late for the day. Having a stomach full with quite a remorse for my fellow citizens starving at the moment, the misled and the innocents suffering at the expense of those walking scot free, there I was caught in deep thinking whose only lament was a lost sleep. The T.V. broadcast told about the control of the siege at the Presidential Palace and the arrest of those involved. With our flight sorties for the day limited to the flight back home at the unit, I had time to patch up my sleeplessness. Finding some sleep 7 hours after a near outbreak of a revolution seemed quite uncommon but I was trying my best to lose track of my thinking. It’s nice to breathe the same air of freedom, at the scent of a wind that had gone through the lungs of those who had been exhausted. I lost myself in a dream, with recurring images of souls lost at the quick burst of gun fire, the piercing splash of water cannons and a shower of stones with the mixed-up shrapnel of pillbox and the echoing explosion. Life’s but a dream, and we’re lesser souls whose luck was limited to end up dreaming and wake up to a nightmare. Or we may choose to fight a nightmare in the waking, hopeful that toppling it opens a doorway to a dream. Whereas, I have chosen to thrive in a living nightmare content at stealing some short dream in sleep. I have always envied hearing people snoring… The louder the snore, the better the sleep. Have you ever imagined a sleeping dinosaur? Well for all eternity, my fellow species had been quite fortunate for a freedom of choice not to become extinct.

i’m not that aware when it comes to rallies or whatsoever happening on the grounds. i mean i’m playing safe, living a happy and peaceful life. I’m young, thinking that I can do nothing but study and do my homework.

You are a great part of the armies or whatever you call them. Ending up with sleeplessness and more. I salute you!

    :) God bless.
