A tale about my dad.
About the time that I was born, my father was preaching at a very little Church of Christ just outside of Portageville, MO. This church did not have air conditioning and during the summer, they kept the windows open.
One summer sunday my father was preaching one of his dreary sermons and most of the small congregation was nodding off. A bug was flying around and many found it to be more interesting. Then it flew right into my father’s mouth and he shut it. My mother almost let out a gasp. Before anyone could react, my father spoke again and the bug flew out free and alive.
Those that saw this, informed those around them in whispers. This ended up waking everyone up and for the rest of the sermon everyone was watching intently. So dad thought he did good with his sermon that morning. That is until mother told him about the bug.
Recently I have been wondering about that bug. What did it go through? It flew in his mouth while he was preaching the word of the Lord and was in there for three seconds. That is kinda like Jonah was in the whale for three day and Christ was buried for three days. So with this in mind, you could say that this bug was baptized.
Now if that bug did as Jonah then it went and spread the word. I guess that would make it the Gospel Bug. The question now is, do you have the Gospel Bug?
