A personal view on how british muslims are being typecast as being islamic extremists. As an English muslim I know for a certainty that the majority of the muslim community hate being typecast and hate the extremists as much as anyone.
I am an English woman who lives in a predominantly Muslim community, and for the most part of it I am happy and content. I got a taxi a week ago, and being polite I started a conversation with the driver regarding the current recession that we are in. I asked him a simple question, ‘Who do you think is to blame for the recession?’ his answer was immediate, “Tony Blair”. When pushed further he said that he believed that the reason there is a global recession is because we went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan. And even worse that it is down to the western countries that Palestine is in the way it is.
I have been married to a British Muslim for over 17 years and I can honestly say that the views shared by some of the brain washed Muslims is not shared by all. In fact most people who I know consider themselves British and what goes on in other Muslim countries is not their problem. But I get sick and tired of watching the news or reading newspapers and hearing the extremist views made by men who were born in our country. Whether we like it or not extremists are slipping through the net and are still brainwashing our youngsters. They do visit our mosques and preach hatred against non-Muslims. What is scary about this is that most of these hate preachers are British born and live amongst us. It is time they took their rose tinted glasses off and had a look at what the world is really like.
Muslims are taught from a very early age in madrassa that non-Muslims are dirty and unclean, and that they should not mix with them. Yet to survive in this country we all need to live and work side by side.
Examples of just how ridiculous hatred is
You will hear on many occasions some Muslims refer to themselves as Pakistani or Indian Muslims even though they are in fact British Muslims. They hate the idea of themselves being categorised as being British, slating the way non-Muslims live. But you tell them the most obvious solution and they claim you are being racist. If you don’t like the way this country is, the answer is simple, don’t live here. But they refuse to go and live in the country they say they are from because when it comes to it they couldn’t live in a Muslim country anymore than an English person could. They could not live by the Muslim laws and be happy and they know it.
