This is Johnna’s journey but you’ll enjoy it too. Doing what you love is the goal of most humans, sit back and read how Johnna knits her “regular job” in with the art she so dearly loves (and she’s good at it.) Enjoy the ride until you find yours.

If Johnna Stutler were to write a list of her favorite things to do, you would see knitting on the list, therefore you may assume that she is an old lady…a grandma type.  Think again folks!  Among that list of favorite things you would also see sketching, watercolor, and painting in all sorts of media.  The knitting started at age 20, when she was pregnant with her first child, Johnna confesses that she didn’t have much money to buy Christmas gifts so she taught herself how to knit. She purchased 2 skeins of yarn and made cable knit scarves…there began a love affair with the knitting needles.  What caught my attention though was the beautiful and hypnotizing paintings that she creates.  When you look at her artwork, it is as though you are there, with the cowboys, with the flowers and in the Vermont Evening and so on.

In her rustic backyard studio, one she and her husband built from the ground up, Johnna entrances herself with commissioned work and scenes that she enjoys.  She does a lot of her work on Saturday, a commissioned piece could take up to 2 months. A cup of coffee and the quiet are all she needs to get started and the time flies by!  When she was a little girl her grandmother started her painting scenes on ladder back chairs, she now shares her love of painting with her 3 grandsons.

I am Johnna\’s daughter… this was all beautifully written. I am very proud of my mother. Her perception to the world is very encouraging to me. She is a wonderful mother, friend, mentor. She will never put those paintbrushes down! Ever! :-) Love you Mom!

What a lovely story. Where are you, Johnna?

Thank you. A friend here at work was entering an author’s contest and wrote her ‘piece’ about me. It was nice to know that she found me so interesting. I do seriously love to paint and oils are my preference; but watercolor is so portable and a challenge as well.
