The world of prescription drug abuse among medical professionals as told by survivor of that world.

MEDICAL MAYHEM: Prescription Drug Abuse Among Medical Professionals: A SURVIVOR’S TALE

Today’s medical industry is drifting into hidden chaos. It’s professionals; Doctors, nurses, medical assistants, even administrators; are abusing prescription drugs; daily. This is all hidden from you by the “white coat”. In the medical world; the white coat is equivalent to a police officer’s badge. I know this without a doubt; I wore one of these badges for many years.

My nightmare began in 2003. I had been out of college about a year; a new nurse practitioner, ready to save the world; & everyone in it. In addition to having an advanced medical degree; I also held a new commission as lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve. I literally had the world by the tail. I had job offers coming in from everywhere; large salaries; large sign on bonus‘. I began work in the emergency department of a small rural hospital. The kind of place where everyone knew everyone. Not Mayberry, but close for today’s standards. I handled anywhere from 10 to 50 patients per 12 hour shift.

Before I get deeper into my story; allow me to quote some information & statistics from the NIDA, The National Institute for Drug Abuse. This will shed some light on the ever growing problem in America.

You are on the right path to sharing your helpful content. I see it to often in my rural state of US too. Structure, grammar, and format are the legistics of writing; the more you do it, the better you get. If you have good content, the rest just flourishes. Great job!
