My own story of success while combating those who don’t believe in you.
There is nothing more discouraging while being a child than authority telling you that you aren’t going to amount to anything. Being raised by a financially successful family lead me to wonder about my own future. I always wanted to be an adult having what I had growing up.
Still a youngster I came across a lot of trouble resulting from being bored. At the age of 12, I was arrested for throwing sticks off of a bridge onto a highway. A few weeks later at my Catholic middle school, I was called out of class to speak to the stern, mean, and angry nun principal. At first she confronted me about the extracurricular incidences in a calm professional manner. As I explained my story I was abruptly stopped. She said, “How dare you embarrass God and this institution. You aren’t going anywhere in life.”
I was soon dismissed back to class due to the principal’s schedule conflict. A year before graduating to high school, I conquered the entire Catholic school in the geography bee. The feeling of accomplishment had not fully hit me until I found out that half the kids I beat became ivy leaguers. As I was receiving my award, I winked at the nun principal with an attitude.
I continued on to high school and performed fairly well while still falling into the hands of legal trouble. Graduation then came where I continued on to college while still thinking of brandishing that fresh diploma in the nun’s face.
Now in college I view my success as still ever growing. I continue to endure road blocks of life such as doing wrong, but I maintained my goals. When I set new goals I think positively, create a realistic plan, and continue to build my resume for the future meeting with my old nemesis the principal.
