Losing my job was a shock to my system going from a very well paid position to jobseeker’s allowance.

In this article I would like to go in to more detail on how I have taken advantage of being made redundant.  Losing my job felt like the end of the world it was something I enjoyed and had been involved in for over twenty years.  The car industry in fact the selling of cars had dominated my life for all of that time.  Things like family friends and other interests all took a back seat to my career resulting in two divorces lost homes and expensive maintenance orders.

So as you can imagine the shock to my system was immense, I frantically applied for many new jobs naively believing with my experience a new position would soon arise.  Not so whatever the reason be it age or the recession no new job was to be found.  So there I was on jobseekers allowance trying to live on a fraction of what I had earned in car sales in fact what I received weekly was less than I had earned daily whilst working.

My credit cards and overdraft at my bank took a bit of a bashing at first as I foolishly expected to be back at work very quickly.  As this did not happen I very quickly realised I had to cut my spending.  Letters were sent to my creditors explaining my situation and new more affordable payment plans were agreed.  Much to my surprise my ex wives where very supportive and agreed I could postpone maintenance payments until I was back on my feet.

My other passion in life was the martial arts and out of the blue came an offer from the head instructor of my association The Open Circle Fighting Method, to get involved with the marketing and promotion of the association.  This has proved to be very enjoyable and rewarding experiences yes it was tough at first very little money coming in.  As the months went by things slowly improved so that now I have an income though it is still a long way off my previous career.

In fact it is quite exciting watching a business grow allowing new ideas to flourish such as our all new monthly magazine which is free to all members.  This magazine contains articles from many experts from differing styles such as boxing, karate, aikido, kung fu.  It is crammed with information such as pressure points, balance theory, kata bunkai, wave theory, training tips and of course self defense.

Sorry to hear that you’re going through some difficulty. At the same time, glad to hear that you got an offer that you like and that you can talk with your exes. Times will be better, you’ll see.
