October two is the day of the Feast of the Guardian Angels. On October 2, 1997, I was involved in a serious auto accident and could have been killed or permanently injured. I am convinced that my Guardian Angel saved my life that day and turned my life around permanently in all ways to the good.
October 2, 1997 was a Thursday. However, I was off that day. I worked for the time as a paralegal for Jewish law firm and they closed the office for a religious holiday. I was happy to have the day off since I was stressed out getting ready for the LSAT, the entrance test to law school. I was slated to take the test just two days later on Saturday October 4. I took it easy that morning and went to the beach that afternoon, enjoying a swim as it was still warm where I am. I was on the way home and suddenly looked at the gas tank and realized I needed to fill up. I was getting set to turn left to the gas station that was only a mile or so from the house.
In this paragraph, I can only state from the physical evidence and what was told me. I remember none of it. I can only assume that I had some sort of amnesia because of the head trauma. In turning left, there was a Mack truck in the right lane that slightly ahead of (and blocking from my view) a small truck behind in the left lane. I turned and smashed right into that small truck; I don’t know if the truck slowed or stopped. I spun around into the street where I was trying to turn into; I hit another semi-truck that was on the side street. I do not remember being in any pain, but I was very weak. However, about 10 seconds after the collision, I remember seeing a woman in a medic type uniform hustling out of her car about one hundred yards away sprinting toward me. I think I allowed myself to pass out knowing that I would be all right.
I was completely blacked out for approximately the next three to four hours. When I woke up again, I was in my room in the hospital. My sisters and mother were there. (There was also a cop there who was waiting for me to wake up to give me a damn ticket for the collision.) I was very grateful to be alive and not seriously hurt and safe. I had a bad concussion and my head hurt, but I was lucid and somewhat alert.
