Excerpt From My Diary, Fun In The Sun (In Moderation) If You Please, Multiple Sclerosis.

I woke up this morning feeling fine. The birds were singing, and the sky was a perfect blue. I was determined today would be a good day! I washed and dressed. I was still feeling fine! The sun was shining, and all was well with the world! However, as it became hotter by the passing hour, so I felt more and more like a washed out rag doll. I put washing into the washing machine, and, set it in motion. By now it was starting to get even warmer and, it was not yet even mid-day. So after making drinks for the family I decided to sit for a while, the washing was now spinning, and still the sun shone. I felt like my very own life blood was slowly being drawn from my body by some alien life force. Still the sun beat down!

I felt trapped in my own home, it was too hot for me to even contemplate a stroll around the garden, for if I stood for too long my legs turned to jelly, my co-ordination went to pot, and, I would either collapse  in an unceremonious heap, or reach for the nearest hard object for support, and end up breaking it. Both scenarios, have, to my mortification been tried, and tested!

It was not being lazy that lead me to hanging my washing in the conservatory (yes Cliff Richard we had planning permission), but the fact that I could not get into the garden and stand pegging out on the rotary line, as the sun was now at an unbearable stage for me.

cold drinks for the family, and a quick sit down for me. I won’t bore you all with the rest of the diary entry but I just wanted to highlight a fact, that even when the sun is shining and you have no pressing problem, please share a thought or two for those of us who have an illness that sees symptoms exacerbated as the heat soars, and, if you have family or friends who can not take the heat well, try and understand how we must feel not being able to join in the fun in the sun!
