While employed as a Staff Nurse, by a Nursing Home, several years ago, I realized that my immediate supervisor was about 25 years my junior. She was, what I thought, young, cute, and perky. Mrs. Jones had recently tied the knot and took the position of Director of Nursing, because the hours coincided with her new husband’s working schedule.

She had a Bachelor’s Degree, which would indicate… to me… that there was a reasonable expectation of intelligent discourse and dialogue from time to time. We encountered each other, during the shift changes, during report to the next shift, and during Staff Nursing Meetings and never really thought there was anything impaired about her ability to communicate with her staff.  Alas, I was wrong.

When we (Nursing Staff) needed a specific issue addressed by our Mrs. Jones, her routine was to leave a memo for the Nurses, about the concern. After each shift shared the memo, we would give our input, responding in writing, about that issue. Such a situation surfaced, shortly after I joined the Team. The Nursing Staff shared various and alternative thoughts, solutions, and approaches,  responded, appropriately.

The typed  memo from the Director of Nursing was, in part, “that is what you have WROTE down here”. There is no reason to continue the fractured memo, any further.

The word is “WRITTEN”, which is past perfect tense of the word write. I gave my Notice that very day.
