An essay written by a young author about a fictional experience. Please read and enjoy:)

I went to the doctor the other day because of some severe head injuries. I don’t really know what had happened. All I remember is that it was a calm summer’s evening, and the weather was perfect for flying.

I got home from school and took a look out the window. It wasn’t too hard to tell that I was going to be flying that evening. I put my flight jacket on and grabbed my set of keys for the airplane. When I got out to the hangar, I did a quick pre-flight check on the outside of the small plane. Everything looked fine, so I jumped in and began the start-up sequence. When I was ready, I hit the engine start button and heard the beautiful sound of the loud engine firing up. I loved that sound so much; I couldn’t resist turning it off and firing up one more time just for the fun of it.

I taxied the plane out onto the runway and took off. I watched my airport get smaller and smaller as I flew higher and higher. My airplane was too small to have air conditioning, so it was really hot in there. I opened the hatch on my cockpit bubble and slid it open so that the wind could cool me off. That was a big mistake. Out of nowhere came a stupid goose. Luckily, it just hit the propeller and I got a face full of feathers and blood. I forgot the fact that geese almost never travel alone. Just when I was about to pull my cockpit shut, another goose hit me smack in the face and I don’t remember a thing after that. I was either unconscious or I got the sense knocked out of me.

Somehow, I managed to land the plane back at my airport and I even parked it in the hangar. I was pretty surprised to wake up this morning inside my airplane.
