Trying to find Full-time Work at 17 without a high school diploma.

My name is Talon. I was Born December 18, 1991. Ever since i was young i have been interested in working, school has not interested me very much at all. Everyone is constantly trying to tell me how to live my life, what i should do, how i should do it. I am sick and Tired of Teachers, my Family and my Friends all telling me that i am making a mistake. The world is having numerous amounts of problems right now like the war in Iraq, the recession, global warming, hunting for the cure for cancer, the list goes on. All these problems that are effecting Canada make it that much harder for a 17 year old  to find full time work. Shops and business’s are running slow, there have been countless numbers of lay offs, many trades are crashing and all we can do is wait for it to fix itself. The work environment has their mind set that if a person does not have his/her high school diploma they are not worthy to work for them.

I have had many shops not even look at my resume just because i have no high school diploma, but i feel that high school is a big waste of time. I have completed school up to grade 12 but now it is just pointless, it does not matter what kind of job i look for whether it be in a wood shop, machine shop, construction etc, Reading romeo and Juliet, calculating how fast a bus would travel one way if the wind was traveling 60 K/M’s the other way or learning about different parts of a frog will not help me in anyway. School itself is not pointless but majority for the subjects and what they teach in those subjects is pointless. I feel school is just to prepare you to start working but i am ready, i want to skip that part but without my diploma everybody is automatically judgemental about me and worried i will not be reliable. I own my own car, i pay my insurance, i worked in a shop for 7 months thanks to my uncle. None of that matters just because i have no diploma.

You are in high school for 4 years, ( grade 9-12 ), The way i look at it is that is 4 years i could have been training in a trade, making money to have my car already paid off to help me move into my own place, take care of myself without relying on my parents or friends. If i finished high school that would be 4 years of living at home, relying on my family for food and shelter but a company or business would rather have some person being pampered by mom and dad fresh out of high school then an independent mature person who would rather begin the life long misery of working rather then wasting time sitting in a classroom partying with friends, None of that makes sense to me. If I would rather work then be in school now i always thought the owner’s of the business’s would look at me as mature, committed, independent and hard working, but so far only one shop has even given me a chance.
