Physical Geography of Immorta

A long time ago, during the beginning of human civilization, there were a series of huge sized earthquakes, which formed seemingly endlessly tall mountains in the center of the land. Also formed by these earthquakes was a serious of high mountain ridges running from the west to the east and from the south to the north. Thus, the land was divided into four quadrants, where four very different civilizations developed. Also, the different elevations throughout the land caused water distribution to also be different. Quadrants, which are named from the northwest quadrant clockwise to the southwest quadrant, were both the first and the final divisions of society. In the first quadrant, there were numerous shallow depressions in the earth scattered throughout, so when the Ice Age passed, and the snow and ice from the mountains cascaded down and filled all the depressions, numerous fresh water lakes and streams. On the other hand, in the fourth quadrant, the land was shaped so that the water only existed in a large ring around the center, with the water moving quickly around and around the land. Thus, with the different environments, the people of quadrant 1 developed to be fishers, while those in quadrant 4 are simply farmers. The climate in the land was moist and warm, ideal for humans and agriculture, as well as the flourishing of flora and fauna. The soil was fertile around water sources, and water full of fishes. Off the coast of the land are salt oceans. All water on land is fresh. There are large deposits of the mineral gold within the tall mountains in the center.

The Quadrants’ Ancient Geography and Lifestyle

Quadrant 1

The peoples of quadrant 1 live in fishing villages, and call themselves the Nestowe, meaning Fishers in English, fishing for a living. They face no threats from wild animals, as they are all herbivores or fish eating animals, but being together allows them to mutually help protect each other’s store of fish and berries, which they gather in the spring. They worship the fish god Piscine, which literally means God of Scales in English. They return the heads of the fishes they eat back to the river, so that they may live and grow again, to be caught later. Many of the people likes to sit around and gossip, and relax.

Quadrant 2

The people of quadrant 2 had lived in the west as villages until the climate finally changed so that one summer, a great flood rushed down from the mountains and destroyed the villages and most of their inhabitants. A few survivors managed to make their way to the east coast, where they lived alone, gathering berries and fruit, but never from plants that grew from the fresh water ocean, which they hated, and vowed to destroy. They are slowly dying out, but they finally decided to give up their life of isolation, and joined into one great tribe, calling themselves Du Asket sek iet Dumon Tielaora, meaning The Avengers of the Great Family. They worship no one and nothing. They are led by the chieftain Analah, who is a girl who lost her extended family to the flood, and who has proved herself a master of strategy and the martial arts. The Du Asket sek iet Dumon Tielaora helped each other with their foods, and every man, woman, and child has to help in storing the food, and they are almost always busy. Because they are so busy, the people normally do not have much time to relax, even if they do, it is just chatting about how the foods are storing.
