This is an extra scene that explains why Haemon goes to the vault.

Extra Antigone Scene

Creon has just ordered his guards to take Antigone away to her death.

(Exit Creon)

(Enter Haemon and Eurydice)

Haemon: Mother, father has just ordered Antigone to be taken away to her death. I must go rescue her.

Eurydice: You mustn’t, if your father catches you, he will be furious.

Haemon: That’s a risk that I’m willing to take.

Eurydice: Unlike your father, I see that you love Antigone and are willing to risk your life to be with her. For this, I support your actions.

Haemon: You must let me go now. Do not let father find out about this. Tell him that I have gone into the city.

Eurydice: Be very careful because you know your father can find out anything very easily.

Haemon: I won’t say a word to anyone.

Eurydice: Now, go, go.

(Exit Haemon)

Eurydice: I hope that Creon doesn’t find out.

(Enter Creon)

Creon: Eurydice, where’s Haemon.

Eurydice: I haven’t the slightest clue, but I heard that he went into town.

Creon: I doubt that’s where he is, I bet he went to see Antigone.

Eurydice: No, I’m pretty sure that he went into town, I saw him walking that way.

Creon: You just said that you heard that he went into town but now you saw him go to town. You’re lying, he went to see Antigone!

Eurydice: Creon, I’m not sure where he went, but if he went to see Antigone, I think you should allow it.

Creon: I will never allow it! I must go back to the chamber and check to see if he’s there.

(Exit Eurydice)

SCENE 5

(Enter Tiresias)

This scene is important because it shows who Eurydice supported, which was Haemon. She wanted him to go rescue Antigone because she thinks that she was unfairly condemned to death. I decided to place a scene of Haemon talking with Eurydice because it helps the readers understand why Haemon was in the vault when Creon went to go set Antigone free after he was warned by Tiresias. I thought that this scene would have been a very important scene in the play.
