Nikki wins a poetry contest and wins a date with someone she never thought she would see again.

The limo was huge inside, almost like she was on a cruise ship. There was a bar right under the window which separated the driver from the passengers. The seats were lined with neon lights which glowed red as the car moved. The ceiling of the limo was dressed in neon as well with the same color. The seats in the limo were lined up in the shape of a U. Nikki sat in the seat which was against the wall of the limo where the windows were and Gerard sat on the opposite side of her; they were facing one another so they could talk. Nikki looked at him in amazement because she still couldn’t get over the fact that he was a rock star. A little no nothing kid who sat in the back of her writing class, was now a lead singer in a band that probably started out of his parent’s garage in New Jersey. He noticed that she was staring at him with a far away look in her eyes and smiled. “A penny for your thoughts,” he said as he caught her brown eyes with his green ones.

“Sorry. I was just thinking about how you were in the back of our writing class with that black leather bound book. But now you are sitting in this awesome limo with me, of all people,” she said with a blush that started to appear behind both of her ears.

“It’s amazing how life can work out for a freak like me,” he said as he remembered the names he used to be called by her friends in that class.

“You were never a freak to me and you never will be. Those writings and drawings you did were heart felt and honest.”

Gerard couldn’t believe that she remembered his writings or anything at all from that space and time, but he was touched that she did. He smiled at her and she knew that he was obliged by her words. Gerard then asked her if she wanted anything from the bar and she looked at him with wide eyes. “You mean, we could take something from the bar and not get charged for it,” she asked with amazement.

He laughed a little at her innocence and replied, “Of course we can. You did win the contest and a date with me, so we can have anything we want. Plus they are picking up the tab.”
