Part one of three. The beginnings of the Shadelings and their history with the Creators.
Long, long, LONG ago the Creators and Shadelings were not what they are now. In the infancy of the first generation the Creators were much the same as any other race. Their desires, their abilities and their flaws. A race known as the Brilnax served the Creators, but comparatively speaking, not treated unwell. For ages both coexisted peacefully and without incident, as far as the record states. Some individuals of the Creators, however, began subjecting their slaves to experiments of their personal interest. Needless to say, not all of the tests ran smoothly. Some left the Brilnax subjects disfigured and twisted. Many more were killed. Knowledge of these happenings spread slowly, but eventually reached the public eye and the others of the Brilnax race. As time passed the Creator’s sense of fairness and morality continued to develop while the sentiment and demeanor of the Brilnax waned. It was decided amongst the leaders of Creators that keeping slaves would no longer be lawful. But the sympathy amongst the Brilnax was great, and from their anguish rose anger and anger bred hatred. Soon after their widespread release the ex-slave population joined together and rose up against the Creators. Although large in number, their strength was no match to that of the Creators. With feelings of responsibility and regret the Creators, instead of extinguishing the remnants of the Brilnax proposed the use of a magic they had long since forbidden. Due to its inconsistency and unpredictability the practice of Interversal magic had been outlawed. After deliberation an exception was made so that the Brilnax survivors could be transported outside of their verse and into one where they could live. The most powerful mages were summoned together to attempt this feat. When it was done all of the Brilnax had been sent together somewhere else and deemed a great success.
The Brilnax flourished in their new environment, living free and uninterrupted. This place was exteremly different, but suitable to their growth nonetheless. Neither they nor the Creators knew exactly where the Brilnax would end up, but they would be together, and they would be alive. The experiments had made many variations in their abilities and over time these differences became more pronounced as they developed throughout the generations. All was well for a time. But the venom of hatred for the Creators poisoned their minds. Every child was taught a skewed version of their history and always to hate their old slavers. The magic that sent them here had created a permanent window to the Creators’ verse for those who knew where to look. Watching them grow and thrive made the Brilnax seethe and brood over the revenge they longed for. But it never came. Eventually the Creators evolved beyond their bodies and ascended, leaving their home world of Erdalia empty. Hope was lost and their concentration on their revenge dissipated. After a while, without a common goal, their unity dissolved and the things that made them different divided them. Five tribes were formed from the separation. Each tribe struggled with the others and power shifted constantly. Over time they evolved and changed into creatures that are not recognizable to what are now their ancient relatives were and became something else entirely.
