In four years my youngest son will be on his way to face the world. Here are ten things I will miss when that day comes.

I thought about 10 things I will miss most when my youngest son leaves home, after writing the article, “What Will I Do When He Leaves Me?”. I’m sure many single mothers will agree with these also.

  1. I Will Miss: Someone Taking Out The Garbage

Emptying all garbage pails in the house, taking out the trash bin and recycling, to the end of the yard and back. The only chore he didn’t whine too much about.

  2. I Will Miss: Someone Opening The Garage Door

Especially, when it’s raining. If he’s in the house, why shouldn’t he open it, so I don’t have to get out of the car or get wet doing it? I need a new garage door anyway, so I’ll get one with a garage door opener and solve that problem now.

  3. I Will Miss: Someone Cooking For Me Now And Then

The menu is limited, but I’m glad I taught him how to cook a few things. He can also cook for himself if I decide to sleep late. The meal does what it needs to do, until lunch time anyway.

  4. I Will Miss: Being Waited On When I’m Sick or Tired

Why not? I wait on him, as well as nurse him back to health, so he can continue being the typical teenager he is.

  5. I Will Miss: Someone Showing Me Love When I Need It

Who else is going to give me a big hug or kiss me on my forehead when I need some love?

  6. I Will Miss: Someone In The House To Talk To

Don’t get me wrong, I can talk to myself, but most people would think I’m strange if they hear me.

  7. I Will Miss: Someone To Mow The Lawn

I’m going to really miss him doing this. He’s just getting used to mowing the front and back yards without my help. My back isn’t going to be happy about this one.

  8. I Will Miss: Someone To Help Bring In The Groceries

Why shouldn’t he help me take the groceries out of the car? Most of the groceries I buy are for him anyway. Why should I do all the work, when he’s going to eat most of the food.

  9. I Will Miss: My Two Little Boys

They are so precious and innocent when they are young. Like I’ve said before, we should be able to freeze them, so they stay that way forever.

  10. I Will Miss: Someone To Protect

I will really miss this one and I think most parents will. I believe this is what hurt my Grandmother the most after her children and grandchildren grew up. She felt unneeded. It’s hard to see your child struggling in life and you really can’t help the way you would like to, because they need to handle their own business. All you can do now is trust them in God’s hands. Unless you have a child that shares what’s going on in their life, so you can try to make it a little easier, you just have to step back and observe. Wait for them to humble themselves and realize they do need you. I SAID, NEED YOU, NOT USE YOU.
