Fun run on New Year day in Perth WA Australia.
The last day of 1986 swa a good turn out for the New Year’s Eve Run at Yokine Reserve. More than 150 runners signed up for this traditional run, may be it was the promise of champagne and beer to start the celebrations for the New Year that acted as the draw-card.
The Conditions were excellent for fast run and at the 2km point ,Ray Boyd led from a tight group of runners that included Keith Stewart and Bradley Delbridge, John Hambleton,Mark Sillins and Ross Parker. At the 6km Ray had extended his lead to 100m from John Hambleton. 30m behind were Keith Steward and Bradley Delbridge, with Ross Parker 20m behind them.
At the finish it was Ray Boyd ,who won comfortably ,only 30 seconds outside the race record, half a minute ahead of John Hanbledton who only just hung on to 2nd place after a determined sprint by Bradley Delbridge over the last 100m.
In the women’s event , Tessa Brockwell is back to her best form by setting a new race record of 28.01. Tessa won from Carol Pickard and promising junior Lacey Clews.
The after race refreshments ensured that a convivial time was had by all. Thanks to Malcolm Evensen, Jan Braid and Fran West, as well as all the other helpers, for helping to make this race the success that it was.
The Race Director was Jim Ellis.
I hope you all like this story. Let me know what you think of it.
