This is the story of my day, the last day of 2007.

We have finely had a little rain the last few days. Our water supply has been so low that we have been very concerned that we would run completely out. The weather man tells us today we have had over an inch of rain, that the lake is up somewhat, and more water from higher ground will continue to run into the lake for a few days. We have had a reprieve but we are not out of danger yet. We are still in the middle of a drought. Saturday we walked by the Chattahoochee River, and it was strange to see water in the mud holes that have been dry all summer. While we were walking we heard a loud sound of honking and looking up we saw a large flock of wild geese flying straight into the river still in their V formation. It was a beautiful sight. There must have been over a hundred geese, and they came in for a perfect landing.

It was foggy this morning when we started out for our morning walk. I started to wear a jacket but decided to wear a heavier coat, and I was glad I did. It was quiet chilly. Squirrels were playing and chasing each other over the roofs, and up and down the trees.

I didn’t have my camera. (Worse luck) I could have gotten some good pictures. This afternoon when we went back outside, I did take the camera, and not a squirrel or anything else was in sight. That happens to me all the time.

We have to have a calendar because that’s where we list all our appointments and important dates to remember, and somehow this year nobody gave us one. We usually get several calendars given to us by the shops and drug stores. We ran out to Dollar Tree and I asked a clerk if they had any left, she said they should have a few, so I looked but couldn’t find any. I had never seen the store in such a mess. Boxes were blocking the isles, and buggies full of Christmas items that had been taken off the shelves. I could have shopped awhile if Lionel hadn’t been waiting for me in the car. I like to prowl around in buggies and boxes. That’s more fun than shopping from neatly stacked shelves. Tomorrow we will have to get serious and shop for a calendar.

Tonight for supper I baked potatoes, soy burgers, (We are vegetarians.) and make a garden salad, we had cherry cheese cake for dessert. I found the cheesecake recipe in a magazine, and it is so simple. I can’t believe I didn’t find this recipe years ago and saved myself a lot of time and trouble. It’s the easiest thing in the world, and it tastes just as good as the ones I have always made. It takes about 15 minutes to make. I will share it on Triond soon.

It is now 9:30 on New Years Eve, and all is quiet here for the present. We’re staying in and celebrating from home. I have a bottle of wine cooling in the refrigerator, and fruit cake for our midnight celebration. We will hear a few fireworks, and horns blowing. We will have the TV on and watch the Peach drop in Atlanta. If we have any regrets for the old year, it will be time to shrug them off and make the New Year better.

I would like to get a bit more journalling done this year, that sounds like I have sorted my resolution out! May your new year be everything you wished for.

What a lovely run-up to the New Year. By now you will have celebrated the start of 2008. Our family gathered at my brother’s house to see the New Year in, so ours was warm and relaxed like yours. I hope 2008 is the best ever.

Sounds so peaceful, and wonderful. Happy New Year, Ruby.

Squirrels recognize cameras, like flies recognize fly swatters? I have noticed that you have to ask for calendars at banks and so forth, as the costs have increased and they are not as freely given out. It used to be that they would sit them out for the taking, now they are hidden for the asking. lol

Have a blessed new year, and I look forward to your recipe.

Thanks ladies for stoping by during your busy day. I have been out doing a little after Xmas shopping today, and I found a few real bargains for next Xmas. Happy New Year to you all. We did find a calendar to buy at another Dollar Tree. You are right Judy, I think they try to hide them.
