One person who changed my taste in music.

If there is one person that has made a difference in my life it would be my uncle. He has really inspired me to be the person I am today in a way. He changed the way I listen to music in one night. Actually it was within one night he changed the way I like music. He really did make a difference in my life in just one night.
My uncle is probably one of the people I respect most in life. The fact that he is just an ordinary guy is one thing, but the fact that he is just a great inspiration is another thing. He changed my life and really he didn’t make a big difference but its something that is well worth mentioning in my opinion.
I was the kid who was into every hip pop song at about the age of 8 or 9. I was just so into hip pop. I never knew about rock and roll. I didn’t care about it. I was at my grandma’s house one day with my uncle and he just told me straight up. “I dont like that your into hip pop and all that non sense.” He told me that it was just worthless music. That in his opinion a guy who needs computers to change his voice shouldn’t be considered music. The singer I liked a lot when he was telling me all this was Usher. I dont know why but I just liked his song Yeah. He was telling me that a guy singing Yeah the whole time is just completely ridiculous, and of course I was young and gullible so I took everything in he was saying like a sponge.
The next day he asked me what bands that I liked and I didn’t know what to say because i didn’t like rock at all. I just told him i didn’t know any bands. So the first band he introduced me to was Modest Mouse. I mean that was just the beginning of his list of bands. He made me a Cd and i listened to the whole Cd at least once or twice everyday. It was just addicting. I told him I loved rock. So the next thing i knew i was wearing my first Radiohead shirt to school and all the other kids were wondering what it meant. My uncle really changed my life that day, because up to this day the good friends I have are mostly into rock and I can relate and get along with them better since we have the same taste in music.
If there’s anything i have learned from my uncle is that music isn’t just about lyrics. It isn’t about beat either. It’s the one thing that people should know and its that music is an art. You dont have to like Rock to become a fan of music. Its really just how you listen and take it all in.
