About a man I know and love.
Looking at your picture
Gazing at your weathered face
Transporting me to another time
To a past and distant place
Where you were a young boy
Growing up on a farm
Working and playing hard
Full of irrepressible charm
You soon joined the navy
Right after high school graduation
Serving your country proud
Of your beloved American nation
You would be working the radio
Broadcasting over the airwaves
Disarming one and all
Giving the listeners what they crave
You then formed your own country band
Where you tickled the black and white keys
Playing in bars and clubs
Giving the audience what they please
You also were an investigative reporter
In traditional newspaper print
With stories that would engage
Forever leaving an imprint
You like to ride motor bikes
And drive pickup trucks
You have a pilots license
And can sail with the ducks
You know how to use a shotgun
And can paint a picture or two
With both a brush and with words
Touching the soul through and through
You are a man of many talents
Captivating my heart so true
Piercing the depths so poignantly
Knowing now that it has always been you
