This came to me in a dream.
A Nightmare in Venice
I look down from my balcony to see two couples canoeing very slowly down the river. I look across and there is a woman waving to me from her balcony. She is wearing a yellow polka dotted summer dress and appears to be quite large. I wave back with a soft smile. The sun is setting and I lean over my balcony admiring my view. Life is beautiful. I look down expecting to see the couple in their canoe, but instead they appear to be walking in the centre of the river.
“How strange…” I think, completely puzzled – the river is over 20 feet deep. I look across the river to see if the woman is still there. She is, but instead of a summer dress she is wearing a bloodstained apron. She appears to be hanging dead cows across a clothesline leading to my side. By now the sun has almost set and a full moon is rising. An eerie feeling is given by this atmosphere. I become frightened from what I had just seen…perhaps I am hallucinating. I look down at the river again only to see that the couple is no longer moving; instead they appear to be motionless. The river is full of a thick green scum and there are dead cows floating very slowly. Perhaps they have fallen off the lady’s clothesline.
I hear a splashing noise coming from the river. I look down at the river and see a scaly reptile that is half as big as the river slip into the muddy water. I stare down terrified. Just then the scaly reptile monster shoots out of the river jumping as high as my balcony. It devours 3 dead cows from the woman’s clothesline. As it was coming up I saw what it looked like. The monster had 2 green eyes and its scales were muddy brown like the river. Its mouth had about 5 sets of teeth and its body resembled a giant worm. The monster shot out of the water again, this time going for me. Quickly I back into my room and the monster shattered my balcony to tiny pieces of rock.
