Ako Mismo is an organization in the Philippines that promotes self initiative. Ako Mismo Dog Tag Day is a concert held at Fort Bonifacio with several charity group beneficiaries.
Ako Mismo Dog Tag Day was a huge hit as more than 20,000 Filipinos flocked at the Fort Bonifacio concert grounds to celebrate Independence Day.
I got there at 3:30 and finally had a chance to buy the dog tags at around 5pm. I was one of the few lucky ones who didn’t wait long in line. Seriously, there were lines that were sooooooooooooooooooooooo long.
The concert started at 5pm with college bands performing, the session was ended with 3 songs from Hale. At 7pm the main concert started with The Dawn singing “Mga Kababayan Ko” as, i guess, a tribute to the late Master Rapper, Francis M. .
The hosts were Ramon Bautista ( from the Palistuhan, Nescafe commercial), Niki Gil (actress and singer at ABS CBN) and Marc Abaya (Kjwan vocalist).
The crowd was a mixture of emos, hiphops , and the typical student crowd; which I think sums up the youth in the Philippines; Which also, in my opinion put the english speaking host (guess who) out of place. Ramon Bautista’s a huge hit with the crowd, and he’s personally my favorite host among the three. He seems to be so real, no pretentions, down to earth.
I didn’t get to finish the whole concert because I was already hungry and my dough is almost out from buying water (Php30 for one 300 mL bottle! OMG! Rip off!) and the Ako Mismo Lanyard (Php 120) but there were a lot of great bands like The Dawn, Up Dharma Down, Kjwan and Kamikaze, and from what the emcees were saying, pupil and bamboo.
I think the Ako Mismo Dog Tag Day was an eye opener and a convincing way to remove the apathetic qualities of the youth today. Good thing it was successful!
