Looking back on particular memories can always be intrigueing.

Another Life, Another World, Another Visited Memory

Sitting on her living room couch, Andrea watches the sunlight dance across the pages of the slowly turning book of fantasy.  It is about late morning in the middle of summer.  It is the first summer where Andrea has the whole house to herself while her mom is at work.  She is trusted with the task of watching her little rambunctious brother of ten who is contently playing video games downstairs in the cool basement.  The house seems particularly cold today.  So she sits next to the window where the sunshine can hit the exposed skin on her arms and legs while lighting the pages of the new world unfolding before her eyes.

As every page turns, this book of fantasy becomes Andrea’s reality.  Now she is traveling over snow covered mountains in search of a warm place to stay.  The wind is wiping snow and sleet at her already frozen face while her feet are turning blue due to the fact that the rough terrain has eaten away at the only shoes on her feet.  Her whole body aches with the cold and her heart yearns for the warmth of a shelter.  Suddenly she stumbles upon a barn out in the middle of a field after five long days of walking ridges and plains.  Right before she makes a run for it, something moves along the opposite tree line.  Are they enemies? Is the end of her life?  Are they part of the Snow Queen’s army?

All at once there is a loud knock on the door and the door handle starts to turn.  Andrea snaps back to her own reality just in time to see her mom walk through the door.  Confused, she looks toward the clock to realize that it is now five in the evening while her stomach growls reminding her that she forgot to eat lunch.  As she peers at her mother, her mother laughs realizing once again that her daughter got lost in the fake world of her book.  To avoid the awkward laughter, Andrea immediately dives head first back into the cold harsh snow of her fantasy winter.
