It’s good to see that the recession has some pros!

I was interested to read on the BBC news website that more and more people are endeavouring to make ends meet by working from home with the use of their PCs.  But it’s not just professionals and the like that are able to benefit.  It seems there are numerous trades and crafts that are now being promoted online.  Most of us have some talent or hobby so why not try to convert this into cash!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8089037.stm

I’ve been working from home now as a freelance digital typist for five years and haven’t regretted it for a moment.  It has down sides – I’m having to tackle my own tax returns and my income fluctuates from month to month, but as more and more professionals such as estate agents, surveyors and lawyers have given up their humdrum office lives to work on a self employed basis from home, my work is ever increasing.

Basically I feel as if I’ve gone back to my roots: I spend less time travelling and wasting time in my city office, I no longer waste time in long checkout queues at the supermarket in my lunch break as I order my main groceries online and get them delivered, and all in all I feel far less stressed and more like a ‘full time villager’ rather than an interloper.

Is it just that I’ve got too much time on my hands to stand by my office window, look out on the scene above and ponder these days, or is it that some divine being or Mother Nature is telling us that enough is enough; it’s time we stopped polluting our environment with long distance commuting, excessive lighting, heating, air conditioning and everything that running huge office blocks entails?

Our lives have become so hectic and stressful so isn’t it time we took a step back and spent less time running around like blue-a***ed flies?  Is this divine being or Mother Nature encouraging us to live more traditional ‘old world’ lifestyles but with the assistance of ‘contemporary upgrades’?

I suspect more enlightened and intelligent beings would probably be able to answer these points but, in the meantime until some expert can convince me otherwise, I can see that this time of recession could benefit us all.  Answers on a postcard from enlightened or intelligent beings please!!!

    Great articule.
As a lorry driver I can’t see how it could work for me though.

I would say Steve that you’re already part of the eco-friendly system! You’re the equivalent of an ‘old world’ merchant :-) . Without your input the whole ‘human eco system’ would grind to a halt!!

As an enlightened and intelligent being Jackie, I say that this is a great article. The title? You mean home working and not your hair colouring, don’t you? Tee hee!

I wish I had found working from home years ago. I do believe that it should be encouraged for the pollution side. It also leaves time for social lives, therefore less stress. Interesting topic.

I can subscribe to your view for myself but with so many people out of jobs or on part time that can’t work from home, I know how difficult it is for them. We must look on the positive though, and maybe some good will come out of it.

“blue-a***ed flies?” HAH! I love that…I hope you don’t mind if I forward this onto a few other bloggers.

Times have changed- I do agree with that- I think that they’re just going to get worse, however. Maybe global warming will change that. XD

Well written piece Jackie. Thanks. Interesting subject, and coming from a direction I’m trying to take myself. Never looked at home working helping the planet like that, funny how you can overlook things sometimes. I’ve sent you a private message too if you wouldn’t mind taking a look?

Enjoyed this piece, I’ll be back for more soon.
