I had a surprise visit from a furry friend one January night in upstate New York.

This made me laugh! I can relate though. I cringe to think that someone may have seen me through my window running around the house with a towel on my head, swinging a broom! Great job nutuba, especially with using dialog.

Nothing like having the last laugh.

Poor bat! But I think I might have done the same thing in the heat of the moment!

  • Kate Smedley on Mar 11, 2009

Another classic, I love the way you tell them!

Cute story, well told! We had a bat in our house once too. I should see if I can find the pictures. They really do look like mice with wings.

I feel a little sorry for the bat. But don’t worry I also reserve some sympathy for the author.
    Great story.

so funny and very much enjoyable to read! I have a neighbor, who will volutarily and happily catched any bat that came in our house and then have it fried and ate it. He said it tasted more delicious than chicken.

Nothing cute about these creatures. Mostly harmless, of course, unless you’re an insect. I love having them around the house, but I DON’T like having them in the house. If you promise not to tell the missus, we’ve had two in our 4 years here. I don’t think she knows.

    Lol…another great one…

Good story, well told… Great opening lines and title!

  • Conifer's hubby on Mar 12, 2009

We actually had two bats in the house but thought there was only one. I dispatched that “one” outside via a fish landing net. The next morn I went to work and Conifer slept in. After arising she wandered (or raced) into the bathroom (without her glasses) and noticed the SOS pad in the bathtub. She picked up the SOS pad which immediately screeched. She responded with a much louder screech and tore out of the bathroom.
That night I opened the bathroom window and went to bed. The bat left.

    I truly enjoyed reading this!

We had a bat here, flying around the bedroom at 3:00 a.m. It’s always 3:00 a.m. when these things happen, and the husband was out of town. The husband is always out of town when these things happen. I solved the problem with a clip board and a collander when my son found the bat a couple of days later, clinging onto the back of the couch. My kids thought the bat was cute. My husband thought I was a goddess as I ushered the tiny flying mammal out of the house. These things always make for a good story!

I’ve never seen a bat, but I imagine I would be frightened. I’m not sure if I would turn into a killer though. J/K…another great story. Keep ‘em coming.

Fantastic! Very nice story, real or not! I truly enjoyed this read. I am from about 20 mins out of Albany NY and 2 times I had episodes with Bats. They ARE so ugly. Anyway, thanks for sharing, its a nice write.

  • Unofre Pili on Mar 21, 2009

A very creative short short story here. A punchy use of dialogue to open up the story.
