Words of wisdom from a four year-old.

The great thing about Sunday cannot be described in a simple phrase. If you believe in God and go to church you will find many treasures there. For me this past Sunday was an experience that I want to remember.

My Sunday actually started on Saturday when I received a call from my Pastor who was traveling for the holiday. He called me to inquire as to how I was doing. After some words of encouragement he said something that would become of great value to me. “I want you to listen closely tomorrow”, he said, knowing that I do talk a lot while at church. “The message will be especially for you”, and with that we lost communication from his cell phone.

Sunday came and as usual I was there early. Remembering the conversation from the day before, I did my best to take his advice. The church was decorated for Christmas, OK I’ve seen that before., singing was the same, and so on. Now our speaker was a former pastor who is a member of our church. He spoke with great wisdom and insight and the message was just what I needed to hear. Maybe that was it! Even though I had tried my best to do what my pastor had asked me, I still wasn’t sure if I had heard what I was meant to hear until, A small voice and a tug on my pants leg. It was Alex!

Now Alex is a preschooler and grandson of Ken and Bev. I had noticed him coming in from Sunday school into the Sanctuary with his Sunday school teacher Miss Linda. He stood so straight and close to her with this sparkling grin on his face. As the church service dismissed I saw Alex again and this time he came to me and said, “ Come see the reindeer.” My first thought was, what reindeer? Anyway he grabbed me by the hand and led me to the front of the sanctuary to show me the Christmas tree and the Manger. He was trying to say the word Manger. Now as he described all the figures in the manger scene, I noticed the sparkle in his eyes and the grin on his face. The words he spoke and his countenance as he did so humbled me. Alex said, “This is the baby Jesus please be careful with Him.”!

In those simple words I was stunned. I had to ask myself this question. How careful have I been with Jesus? If a small boy can think like that why haven’t I done the same?

Every day of my life should be spent caring for the One who cared so much for me. I should remember that I am His child and my love for Him should always be child like. I should look to Him for my needs, my wants, and my security. Just as a child depends on their father to do for them. I must place my arms and my heart around His word and embrace it and never let it go. I must talk with Him and ask Him to go with me. I must let Him guide my life. In return I must share Him and proclaim Him and live everyday that others might see Him through me. The heart of this little boy lead me to a greater understanding of Jesus, and how I must be careful with Him!

P.S. Thanks Alex for those great words of wisdom. Message received!
