Overcoming shock and anger in frustrating times to find gratitude.

Waking up to glass shattered everywhere, and one’s car broken into would be understandably shocking any time. However, to find one’s car smashed apart in an act of vandalism on a day one should be focusing on what they are thankful for is a blow to the soul.

However, sweeping up the glass, and looking at the blue sky, decorated with beautiful, heavenly clouds, is almost transcendental. An awakening, really, to a true Thanksgiving spirit. A realization that to even have a car is still a dream to some people. In addition, finding thanks that the car was still in the driveway and that no one in my family was injuried as a result of the incidence.

Then, the fragrant aromas of baking and the joyful chatter of dear ones resonating from the kitchen reminded me that this shattered window is the biggest worry of my day, and so I should be thankful that I have good food and family to turn to. So many parts of the world stuggle with intense warfare and famine on a daily basis, things that make worry over a shattered window seem silly.

So as times of challenge and frustration or fear and uncertainity present themselves to you, remember to find appreciation for the beautiful things you do have in your life. Life may have struggles, but awareness of the great gifts we do have helps one find gratitude even for broken glass.

It appears that we share similar traits in Faith; and the ability to see the lesson and beauty in the guise of adversity. I also thank you for your kindness in viewing and understanding \”Outside These Colored Walls\”; and sensed a kinship in your comment. Be safe and enjoy the holidays.

that is really good. reminds me of going to see my family and fretting over so much small stuff when it\’s about being together and sharing in love and fellowship. Great post.

I agree with you. One must try to find the beautiful things in life instead of only paying attention to the bad things that happen to us.

The title caught my attention, I just had to know why you were thankful for broken glass :) I agree, there is so much to be thankful for if we look beyond the negative and see the positive. Dear Fegger, jhedzia, Morgana, and Vickie Jordan: Thank you all for stopping by. Wow! I didn\’t even realize I had so many comments on this piece. It is so sweet of you share your thoughts. Finding the broken into car with glass everywhere was one big shock on the Thanksgiving holiday… but I realized that is could have been worse and that I still had many blessings. It\’s a good reminder whenever crazy things happen or sadness finds its way to us.

Just looking at the blessings around me everyday keeps me grounded. I don’t mind a taste of humble pie here and there. It reminds me that I’m alive and breathing. This was a beautifully translated metaphor. Not too many souls can appreciate what God has given them. Some learn way too late and sad to say, some may never acquire this gift! Thanks for sharing this.

    Love and Blessings,

    San
