Written from the point of view of the title character in “Beowulf”.

Day 1

I have heard the legends. The ones of happiness, the ones of sorrow. I have heard them all.

Day 2

The great hall has been built in the land of the Geats. They call it Heorot. Tonight they are hosting a banquet to celebrate the opening. I heard it was made strictly from ivory and gold and took many days to build. They have poets coming to sing about it. Apparently, the king’s dream foreshadowed a reality- the hall. What else will they foreshadow?

Day 3

A nightmare, that’s what. A horrific monster, one with an unknown name. It dragged itself into the hall, leaving a trail of blood, bones and veins behind him. He would eat anything he felt in his way. The king had dreamt of his hall being covered in blood, and when his servants went t o see the hall the next morning, his dream became a reality again.

Day 4

Today, uncle heard word of the Hall Heorot disaster. The poets sang about it. When Uncle heard, he said I would be able to kill this beast. I am ready. Nothing can cause such damage in a single night will escape my grasp. For I am myself, I am Beowulf.

Day 5

I am on my ship, headed to the Land on the Geats, on a quest to conquer the monster and whatever he has in store for my men and I. We will fight using our brains and strength. The land is in sight. My men say that there is an evil side and a god side to this mysterious territory. The legends say the good land is where the castle and hall lie, and some say the evil side is a marsh called the fen. All I know is, we will fight and we will win.

Day 6

Today we anchored our ship and met the king and queen. of this territory. They were very kind and welcoming towards us and only made us more determined. We saw the hall, and the maids were finishing their cleaning. Oh my lord… I do not know what kind of monster would do this. What the poets sing of is true…

Day 7

I met with the King today. We discussed the fight that will ensue. Unferth then spoke out of nowhere and said that the only monster capable of doing this is Grendel, son of Cain. I soon discovered that Unferth had very poor spirit and I had a sense he did not find Grendel to be as bad as the rest of us did.
