Written from the point of view of the title character in “Beowulf”.

Day 8

I am prepared to fight Grendel, as are my men. We will avenge what this monster has done to this Kingdom. I will fight using only my hands, as according to the friendly coastguard, fighting Grendel is like fighting the sea, and I would never fight water with a sword.

Day 9

I am in need of some rest. Defeating Grendel was difficult, but I persevered. Defeating She was something else. She sang her love to me, enveloping me with her tentacles. I fought back, and silently strangled her with her own arms. The celebrations afterwords were marvelous. We drank and sang into the night.

Day 10

Oh wow, this voyage has been adventurous, a real learning experience, and one that truly showed me good and evil. I have enjoyed myself immensely, but I miss my homeland. I am going to go and tell the King and Queen of my gratitude but also warn them of my departure. I will always remember this journey and the lessons learnt.

Day 11

I am ready to depart. The King has prepared a marvelous ship for me. It will be accompanied by birds. All my men are excited to leave, but they will never forget the lessons learnt here in this hall. The King is calling for me now.

Day 12

As I boarded the ship this morning, I was very anxious to return to my homeland. Somehow, all at once, I was hit with memories of the hall and

my home. Although I love it here, I am ready to depart. I will miss Queen Wealtheow and the King. I remember when I first arrived; I stuck my sword

in the hill. Since then I have evolved and realized that being brave isn’t just about the things you do, but rather how you do them and what you learn in the process.

Day 13

I have finally arrived back home , to a clan of honorable citizens, all very proud of the “heroic” duties we performed. We did not do these acts to add them in our book of accomplishments, but rather to help out and use our strengths to do something good. That trip taught me so much and was really one we are proud of.

Day 14

It has been many, many years since I defeated Grendel and She. I found this journal among my possessions. I thought it would be nice to add one more entry. If there is one thing that I had to remember from my journey, it would be the Hall, with its gold walls and white floors, it is a marvel. I am glad I chose to defeat Grendel for the good of the people. I am proud of the brave men who fought beside me. I would have been nothing without their courage and strength. If anybody ever finds this, I hope you can relive my experiences as well as I can.
