Shake it like a rock star.

That’s me in the bandanna.  You didn’t think I was a cross dresser, did you?  The picture was taken about ten years ago at the concert of The Back Doors, a Doors tribute band.  The reason the photo is in this blog is because my outfit gives you an idea of what I look like when I sing karaoke.

I grew up with a passion to sing rock and roll as strong as my passion to write short stories.  I’ve been blessed with a great rock and roll voice.  And of course I practiced obsessively.  That always helps.  It’s the same way with writing.

But no matter how I tried to break into rock and roll as a career, it was not to be.  After fronting several local bands in the Pittsburgh area I had to give it up.  When drugs, booze and sex are more important to a band than the music it’s tough to get that first break.

But this blog is about karaoke.  I love karaoke.  The only problem is my favorite karaoke bar recently turned into a sports bar, the HDTVs are broadcasting sports even when the karaoke singer is singing.  The owners mute the TVs.

The TVs have killed karaoke.  You say, go to another karaoke bar, knuckle head.  It’s no that simple.  When I fall in love I fall in love hard.  So, right now I’m blogging about karaoke.

I’m still in mourning.

In Korea, they have a noraebang (norae=singing and bang=room) where you can sing with friends.

I only sing in the car now as I lost my singing voice after surgery to remove my thyroid gland. My passion is ballroom dancing which I can do with my husband. It is a way to keep music in my life. I hope you find a new club.

I used to enjoy singing. It was my passion but something happened and I lost my singing voice. I still sing sometimes when I’m sure no one can hear me.

Poor sweetie, its sad that you lost something you had great passion for and now you feel abandoned.

  • Guy Hogan on Oct 10, 2009

Yes, I do feel “abandoned”. That’s a good word for it. My social life has not been the same since.

Places to sing Karokee come and go. It seems the people that invest in the machines etc. wear out their welcome at certain places. I hope it never goes completely out. It is fun!
