Not many people can say they share a birthday with their father, but in my family there were four generations of men sharing a birthday.

That’s right, my great, great grandfather, my great grand father, my grandfather and my uncle were all born Feb. 24th.

At one time this was a glorious day of celebration like non-other. All four generations alive and well made a special appearance on the Gary Moore show “I’ve Got a Secret.” This show was recorded on my Uncle Don’s first birthday and Za Za Gabor was the special guest of the week.

This year, however, the day will be filled with sadness. My grandfather passed away December 15th, 2007 which makes this day mournful in 2008. My uncle will be celebrating life alone as the last of the generations to be born on this day. But we will remember this time as a day of commemoration instead for these three great men who once were so proud to share what so few have the chance to do. For my family, February 24th will always be honored as Carter Day.

Below is a picture a of all four generations on “I’ve Got A Secret” as they celebrated their birthday together.

We lost a fine man and my good friend when Don passed in December. The original NP article about the Gary Moore show was on the wall of the St. Bernard Kennel in the old Mainville home on the hill. He was so proud of his family.
