CD HOLDER.

If anything, there was too much time. The teacher was generous in that department because everyone was pretty slow, except for me and my partnerwho were the first finished which was by the end of the second day. While cutting with the band saw, we were scared because we knew what it could do; therefore we had forgotten about cutting the grooves, so we decided to forget about it. We should have spent more time brainstorming a more complex design, and we should have spent a little more time on the orthographic drawings because we had so much extra time and that’s where we struggled the most.

The orthographic drawing was a problem for both me and my partner because we didn’t really get an understanding of the concept. If we had to draw another one, I think we would get a 60% at most with the knowledge we posses. Neither of us knew weather to use a dashed line or a solid line, and we had trouble with the scale

Our CD holder turned out to be very basic, yet very functional. The orthographic drawing did not help at all, as we rushed it and never looked back. Basically, when we were constructing the CD holder, we were using our common sense.

Everyone had complications, and ours was no different. The first problem encountered was forgetting the grooves, therefore making us very frustrated, but we kept our composure and kept going. The second problem we encountered was when the nail kept going to the side, and eventually poked out one of the other sides. This was when we found out that I was bad at hammering. The final and most frustrating part of all was when I was hammering my name into the CD holder, it broke! We were freaked out at first, but nonetheless Mr. Mussier came to the rescue and glued it back together. To improve it, we had to sand it for a good half an hour.

Everyone would improve their CD holder if they had a chance to go back in time and do it over, and this is no exception for my partner and me. If were to start over, firstly we would make the grooves before cutting. Also, with the extra 2-3 periods that we had to spare, we could have build a more complicated design because ours was too basic, and we could have spent more time on the orthographic drawing.

New experiences are great, especially the one that happened to our class which was staining. I was astonished after we stained it because it looks so professional. But before I saw it, I was afraid it would look bad.

I would rate the experience I had with the CD holder unit a 10 out of 10 because it was a new experience for me and one that I will never forget. It is very unique and takes a lot of calculations, but is still very fun at the same time. Getting to use the equipment was also a new and exciting experience for me and I hope to do it all again or something like this in the near future.
