With age comes understanding is a common saying that is as old as the hills. I failed to realize the true meaning of this saying until I sat in a forum with some women who were a bit older than me. I listened in silence as they spoke and shared about their everyday lives, I was amazed at the quality of their conversations. They spoke words that were meaningful and well thought over, they gave each other honest opinions and good advice .They criticized positively and argued reasonably. In short theirs was a conversation worth listening to.

I sat back and begun to recollect my own conversations with my friends and peers. All the giggling we do and idle talk we engage in. How we spend time criticizing and noting faults that are at times non-existent. How we put ourselves down, put each other down and put anyone else we can find down. How we forget to appreciate these older women and instead call them “old -fashioned”, “passé” among the other names we coin for them; yet they can serve as the friends we can talk to when we need some encouraging and not just gossip.

It’s amazing how just ten minutes with an older insightful woman can positively challenge and influence your life. How she’ll ask you how you are doing and seek to ensure all is well with you. How she’ll remind you to walk upright and smile a bit so that you can portray confidence. How she’ll remind you that good things come to those who wait so that job you’ve been chasing will finally be yours. How she’ll let you know albeit gently that your ex- boyfriend d is not worth loosing yourself over and that there’s a better man in store for you. She’ll keep you posted on how to slowly nurture yourself, to keep your body healthy and keep yourself looking good. In short she’s an asset, she’s a friend worth having because we all know she is the epitome of womanhood, she is worth celebrating!!!!
