Coming of age is about growing up. It means we gain independence. We are able to make decisions for ourselves. At the same time it means more responsibility. We have to be able to make our own choices but we have to suffer the consequences of our actions. Coming of age can occur during our late teenage years up to around 24 or 25. There are certain events associated with coming of age that we all experience. These are known as rites of passage.

Some of these include: Bar mitzvah, puberty, going to pubs, voting, nightclubs, loans, license, job, confirmation, 18th, marriage, divorce, death in family, houses, kids, more freedom, university, leaving school, cruising, 21st, graduation, leaving home,renting a house, schoolies, traveling, experimenting, first car, initiations, r rated movies and enlisting in services.

These may be different for every person.
