The second diary of Young Deer. See first for further description.
Later that Day
Today was a long and tiring day. I have nothing to do now except rest in my bed. I have been preparing the ground all day. Crops will be difficult to cultivate through the spring season. The soil is damp and chilled. This doesn’t bode well. My father says that the spirits are punishing our people. What for I do not know. We have been good and peaceful for a long while now. Perhaps the spirits do not see this. Perhaps they only see the small faults and not the big picture. My parents say I shouldn’t talk that way, but it is hard not to when all is going so badly. Besides, if the spirits were so good and kind, then why are we half starved because the spring crops all died? I am beginning to have doubts about these abnormal beings that dwell in our beliefs.
