I received an invitation.

I received an invitation
It arrived by Royal mail
On royal blue stationary
“Mommy” was on the envelope

You are invited
To have dinner with the Queen
In the dining room
At half past three

I wonder what one wears
To have dinner with the Queen
Should I bring something?
Or should I try to sing?

“Mommy can you help me, please,”
My little girl was tugging at my sleeve
She had glitter and glue
And construction paper, too.

It was already a quarter past two
“I have an invitation,” I said
“To have dinner with the queen
We must hurry I have so much to do.”

So, we cut and pasted
And glitter went everywhere
But at last we were through
It was now three quarters past two

The dining room was a mess
We pile everything in here
I’ve got to clear a spot
To have dinner with the queen

I ran to my closet
I must change I thought
Should I wear a dress?
To have dinner with the queen

Finally, wearing my best dress
I placed a cake on the dining room table
I sat down on my favorite chair
To await the arrival of the queen

Right on time the queen arrived
She looked magnificent
In her extra long dress
That looked like one of mine

She carried a tea set
Of royal blue
She sat it on the table
And gave me a bow

Her royal crown slipped off her head
And glitter went everywhere
She picked it up
And put it back on her head

She looked at me
And spun around
“Thank you,” she said.
“For having dinner with the queen.”

That afternoon passed so quickly
We talked of all the things that we like to do
It was so much fun to have
Dinner with the queen

That evening my husband said to me
“So what did you do today?”
I told him that it had been a special day
I had dinner with the queen

I’m a little confused. I get confused easily. The viewpoint character and the Queen seem to be the same personal. If they are, I get. If they’re not, I don’t get it.

The queen is her little girl. Mother and daughter are playing dress up. They cut a pasted her royal crown. The daughter (queen) wore one of her mother\’s dresses. Sorry, I thought this story was obvious. Maybe I should change the name on the envelope to Mommy.
