Epic as hell, great screenplay, and boy what a wonderful night!

Dr Manhatten trumphs the role in portraying  the scientist with only loose connections to reality. His white eyes only see the scenery that infolds in front of him, and he does not un derstand what unfolds there. fittingly said in a direct quote from the movie: “The uber-mensch exists, and he is american”. His acting style is perfect for the role. He, the giant with superhuman powers, teh all knowing and the all mighty, is one of the most carefull of the bunch. he seems like one of the few good pillars in a society of thugs and greased weasels, the elephant in the china-shop, using his entire carefullness for the greater good, only to forgetr that he stands on the owners mangled corpse.

Night-owl is also a supreme character. he himself is a toy-man, a lover of gadgets, worthy of a compatison with bat-man. He is one of the few that had their heads straight, that had planned for the inevitable, the one with two identities. He does not get all of his neccesary validation from acting heroic, he just likes some action. he knows deep down that all that he needs is to live on, to die an other day. He lives, despite his heavy fortune, in a small house, eating beans and living the live of the average joe. Only in his basement, the remains of his former glory exist, like a collection of toys an old man has. He still plays with them occasionally, only to put them back again.

The only character I was disappointed with was silk spectre. The only thing more ridiculous would have been to  make her a sucessfull business woman.

In the movie, her actress does the best to portray her in a fair way. But, to be quite honestly, the role sucks. She is the only token female character, nobody in particular to be proud of. Sure, she has her looks, and the ability of her training, but beyond that, her character is absolutely flat.

The entire movie is brilliant. if it comes out on DVD, I will get some for my friends. The soundtrack, mainly consisting of 60’s music, accurately portrays the paralell world. The hippies protest against the state troopers, and get shot. Villans are old and fall victim to male pattern baldness. The smartest man in the world is only one more crook on the way, and after he finishes his plan in a superb way, he is left alone.

The biggest reason of all I love the movie is that the way in which the movie is told is allmost as dirty and gritty as the one of 300 or Sin City, a film reminiscent of Waztchmen the most mainly because of Rorschachs diary. the end is allways as gritty as the movie itself. Silk spectre is reunited with her mother and night owl, one character is dead, but his legacy lives on in a way that got the entire theatre clapping, and one character is off to new galaxies.

as the ending credits rolled out, my male ego was refreshed. I solemly vowed to buy the movie the day the DVD came out, and to write an article about the film here.

Hope it was worth your time. If you liked it, give me a thumbs up.
