Sometimes we need to take a second look to really appreciate what we have.

The other afternoon, while driving, I stopped at a traffic light and glanced over at a park on my right. There, I saw a very large, beautiful statue likened to “As a Man Thinketh…” It was majestic and actually appeared spotlit by the sun’s rays. Even more interesting, though, was an elderly man who sat directly next to the statue. He was disheveled and, it would seem, homeless. He sat with almost the same position as the man in the statue. I had to double-take to see if I was imagining this. My mind held me in stare and in check. The light turned to green, and I drove away, thinking to myself that this was a case of “the way it should be” and “the way it is.” I’ll never know the man’s story, but this incident was a sobering reminder to me of how much I have to be thankful for.
