Reasons for emigrating. How to decide where to go. What to take in consideration.

I am sure there are many articles out there on moving to a new country. I
believe every person’s experience is unique. I also believe that if one is
looking for information it helps to get as big a variety as possible. That is
the reason why I decided to write this article, and if all goes well there will
be more, on other subjects.

I was born on a bush veldt farm in South Africa. The farm belonged to my grand
father and was located close to the border. I loved living on the farm. I think
what I loved most about farm life was the freedom and open space. I could not
stay out of the bush. I was always walking around somewhere in the veldt, or
climbing the hill. There were an abundance of wild berries and fruit on the
hill. What I liked most where a reddish one I knew as “Malangwa”. There were big
brown ones with a hard shell, and small soft black ones. My grand parents and my
parents wasn’t to happy about my wandering ways. There were a lot of snakes in
the veldt. ( My father caught snakes and sold them to Jack Seal’s snake park at
Hartebees Poort Dam). I thought the snakes were very interesting.

A Few years back I started to investigate other countries. Because my ancestors
are from France, Netherlands, Germany and Britain they were the first countries
I investigated. After I crossed them of my list I started looking at the USA,
Australia, Dubai and New Zealand. I Crossed Dubai and Australia of pretty
quickly because of the heat. I do not like the heat very much. The more I found
out the more I liked New Zealand. Not too hot, not too cold, sparsely populated
(lots of work), low crime rate, very friendly and helpful people. So I decided
to come and see for myself what it is like. I decided on Christchurch and I fell
in love with it almost at first sight. For me it was the best thing to do.

Moving to another country is a decision one should not take lightly. The first
thing one should decide is why do one want to move to another country. When one
have made a decision on that point the next step is to decide what kind of
country do one want. After that decision have been made start to get information
on the different countries to see witch meat your criteria. Only then start to
look out for work, a house, schools and so on.
If you make a mistake, it will not be very easy to rectify. Remember, if one
move to another country one has to start all over. There will be no family and
friends. So think very carefully before taking that step.
