Best experiences in the world.
The duration of the drama course has been a unique experience that has given me the chance to grow. I gained new abilities that were put to the test when my class was given our summative. Like any new experience I had, I confronted problems.
There was the individual problem I faced when I had to say the pick-up line. I felt uncomfortable saying it, but I knew I had to let go. Throughout the whole semester I haven’t really “let go,” and I believe it was done through the encouragement of my peers and the sacrifice I had to make in order to add humor to our script in the summative.
The second individual problem that I faced was memorizing my lines. I am not good at memorizing, and it was becoming an issue. I then changed the script to more of a casual look so that it was just like a real life scenario with situations that would actually occur.
The third and final problem that occurred was procrastination because I did it on everything I was asked to do. I then gave all my group members my phone number and email and I constantly told them to repeatedly message me saying “get the work done.”
An overall issue we faced as a group was leadership. There was no initial leadership because the majority of the group never really talked, but as the time passed, everyone realized the significance of this performance and that we were on a deadline. Everyone then contributed in one way or another and the final result was phenomenal. Our lines were memorized without stuttering, our transitions were quick, our props were limited, yet effective, and we kept focus throughout keeping the audience informed and focused.
I have learned to let go and it is time to learn the necessary skills; one being a casual view. When I said the pick-up line, I was looking down taking away from the comedy.
I will work on incorporating real life situations and vice versa as drama has given me the confidence to achieve my goals without having to worry about looking like an idiot.
