My ferreting adventures.

I got my first ferrets from my grandad for christmas a few years ago. They are both females or “Jills” as they are known in the ferreting world. Purdey and Kalashnikov are their names.

Purdey is an excellent ferret as she can work and work all day and never get tired. She hardly ever lays up and if she does its because she is stuck which cant really be avoided. I normally go ferreting with her at a sheep farm in the hills outside my home town. My grandad, now retired, spends most of his days out and about ferreting or snaring rabbits. Kalashnikov, named after the ak47 assault rifle because they can both be buried in the sand for ages and still work like nothing has ever happened, is a good ferret but she lays up whenever a rabbit is too stubborn to move. Purdey bites and scratches until it moves but Kalashnikov just bites it a few times and sits waiting for me to dig down to her.   my other two ferrets dodge and stinker I got in August. they are both excellent workers and love hunting for rabbits. Unfortunately I cant take them out regularly because Icant drive obviously. When they do have to make a kill underground it is usually because the rabbit has them cornered and they are getting scared or if they are fighting too fiercely. Then i have to dig down and find them. Most rabbits arounf here though are hard to fing as all of scotlands countryside is just one big mass of Thistles and nettles. Ouch!  Also thre arent that many rabbits around anymore. i think they are all being eaten by foxes since fox hunting was banned stupidly all those years ago.
